What would it take to change the World? Rotary International is the world’s first service Club organization, with more that 1.2 million members in 34,000 clubs worldwide. Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, eradicate polio under the motto ‘Service Above Self.’ Since our founding in 1911, The Rotary Club of Denver has been dedicated to doing good in the world as the 31st oldest Rotary Club internationally (hence our nickname, Club 31.) As Denver’s premier service organization with approximately 350 members, The Rotary Club of Denver is comprised of some of the region’s most prominent community leaders – men and women with diverse backgrounds in business, professions, religions, civic and non-profit organizations. Our members actively strengthen the Denver community through our service, fellowship and by example. We gather at weekly meetings and other functions to fulfill our commitment to the Rotarian ideals of friendship, fellowship, and service to others. Click Here for for information About Us. There has never been a better time to be involved in Rotary—where member benefits, community service and networking opportunities await you. Denver Rotary has two fundraisers each year. Our major event is The Branch Rickey Award which recognizes humanitarians in Major League Baseball for their service, The second is our annual Peach Sale in August. Other committees/programs promote social and fellowship events such as our annual Family Picnic, Rotary at the Rockies and our Holiday Party. Other Club service committees brings us exceptional speakers each week, focus on our membership, work with our club website and PR/communications. Still others provide opportunities for hands-on contributions to local youth programs such as Denver Kids; our adopt-a-school program at the Denver Center for Int’l Studies; our Rotary College Counseling Initiative; High School Scholarship & Achievement Awards, Childhood Literacy and Youth Mentoring Programs, and Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. Committees with an international emphasis offer opportunities to participate in World Community Service, Youth Exchange, Ambassadorial Scholarships, Group Study Exchanges and Vocational Services. Thank you for taking time to learn about Denver Rotary. Below are some answers to frequently asked questions about club membership. What qualifies someone to join Rotary? A prospective member must be in good standing in the community and be a business owner, an executive, manage their own time, or be in a managerial position to be eligible for membership. How does an individual become a Rotarian? To join, you must have a sponsor. Your sponsor will invite you a lunch meeting where you can meet other Rotarians and experience a Rotary meeting. Where does Rotary meet? The Rotary Club of Denver meets each Thursday in downtown Denver at the Denver Athletic Club, 4th Floor Grand Ballroom, 1325 Glenarm Place, Denver 80204. The meeting is a luncheon from 11:45 to 1:00 p.m. Occasionally we will meet offsite at another location. Please check our Meetings Calendar at www.DenverRotary.org. What are the current financial obligations of belonging to Denver Rotary? Members of Denver Rotary must pay quarterly dues which includes dues to our Rotary district and Rotary International. As members are expected to attend our weekly Club meetings, the cost of these lunches are also included in the member's dues. In addition, each member is encouraged to give a minimum of $100 each year to both the Denver Rotary Club Foundation and The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International, as well as support our annual Branch Rickey Award fundraiser with their time, silent auction donations and/or purchasing an event ticket. In August, members can get involved in our annual Peach Sale by helping on pick-up day or selling/purchasing boxes of peaches. Club members are also expected to participate in local or international Rotary Club activites or projects. *The initiation fee is waived for former members who rejoin within one year; $75 after one year. Fees for Rotarians transferring from other Clubs is $75 from within District 5450; $150 outside our District. Are there minimum attendance requirements? To remain in good standing, a 50% attendance record is expected. Meetings missed are easy to make up. Attendance at a regularly scheduled committee meetings, board meetings, new member orientations, Club social functions all count as a meeting. Additionally, you make up a missed meeting by attending other Rotary Club meetings two weeks prior or two weeks after a missed meeting. What is the New Membership process? Your Sponsor will ask you to complete a prospective Member Application and return it, along with the initiation fee, to the Rotary Office. Upon receipt, you will be notified by email. The Application will be submitted to the Membership Committee for consideration at their regular meeting on the 1st Thursday of every month. The name of the proposed member will be submitted to the general membership in our weekly Club newsletter. If no objections are received, the application is submitted to the Board for its approval at its regular meeting on the 3rd Tuesday of every month. Upon approval, the new member will be notified immediately. As soon as scheduling allows, the new member will be introduced to the Club by their sponsor during a regular Thursday Club lunch meeting. At this meeting, you will receive a New Member Packet with information about the Club, as well as your Red name badge. Is there a New Member Orientation? The Rotary Club of Denver is committed to help new members find their place in the Rotary World, availing all aspects of service to better the world around us. Our Club’s New Member Orientation is in three parts: (1) an evening social gathering (with spouse/partner) with your “New Member Class”; (2) an Ambassador (or your sponsor) will meet with you and help you a) get engaged in our Club’s programs/committees (including three recommended Committee visitations), b) understand Club operations, and c) recognize our Club expectations of you; and (3) a meeting with a Past President or other Club Leadership.
