In 2007-2009, the Denver Rotary Club Foundation provided funding for a $10,000 grant to New Member Classes of Denver Rotary, which are made up of all of the great individuals who joined the Denver Rotary Club from January 1 to December 31 for each calendar year 2007, 2008 and 2009.
This money was to be used by each Class to address some cause or concern in the community – in other words, they all got to pick a project and do something about it. Our Club had so much confidence in their ideas and ability to make a difference, we funded it with $10,000 each year. They didn't have to ask permission, run it by the board, seek approval from the Executive Committee – each Class decided, planned and executed this project on behalf of the entire Club!
The only two restrictions to this funding were as follows: first, the project had to be self sustaining – in other words, the Class couldn't go back to the Club or the Foundation and ask for more money for this project - ever. It could be a “one-off” project that starts and finishes in the same year, or it can be the launch of a new multi-year community project that would be sustained through funding outside the club. Second, a spokesperson for the Class must report to the entire club on what great things their class was able to accomplish with this money.
