Communications Committee - Su Ryden, 2008-09 Chair

PUBLIC RELATIONS

For those of us who have been involved with Rotary and see, up close, the awesome contributions that Rotary has given to the world, it’s easy to understand the value of PR.  But to those in the community who don’t know what Rotary is all about, there needs to be some mechanism that sheds light on Rotary’s mission. The PR Committee was formed to help with this task.

The thrust of the committee’s efforts is outside the club and into the community. This committee is the liaison to the community in which Rotary works and serves. Their efforts include media releases, announcements and efforts toward building relationships with the media, not only locally, but nationally. They serve as contacts for the media should any questions arise regarding speakers, issues, membership, etc.

The committee is also responsible for internal public relations, keeping our membership updated about all of the committee activities.  This committee will especially work with the staff and the PR committee of the Branch Rickey Award. As greater awareness of Rotary is achieved, membership will become part of many individuals’ lives as a way to help, to give back to the community and to grow and enrich one’s life.

KEYWAY (Observer’s Report)

The main responsibility of the Keyway Committee is to serve as Meeting Observers. These volunteers write a review of the weekly program for the Keyway newsletter. This committee is a great opportunity for those members who like to write.  There is also an opportunity for this committee to start regular columns in the Keyway, such as a “Meet Your Fellow Rotarians” weekly special.  Opportunities also exist for committee members to assist the staff with creating, editing and production of the weekly newsletter.

MEMBERSHIP ROSTER

What would a club be without a member roster? The committee works diligently to update and correct all member information so that each member can receive an annual updated directory.   The committee members work with the staff to create, produce and distribute the roster, usually in July of each year.

WEBSITE & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE

This committee has just launched YOUR new Denver Rotary website.  With your help and support we plan to bring you with the latest Denver Rotary news and events via the web.  In addition, the website enables you to view an up-to-date Club roster and allows you to update your own profile.  Stay tuned as we continue to expand our website capabilities.  Also needed are members who can provide the Rotary office with computer software/hardware consultation and assistance with audio/visual needs.
