Dear Fellow Club Members,
On March 16, 2010 the accomplishments of the Communications Committee were presented to the Club’s Board of Directors and I would like to share a summary of that presentation.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Diversity:
· The Denver Post – published an article about President Roland Thornton
· MiCasa – a 30 year old local organization working with Hispanic youth and women - submitted an application for DRCF grant
· Intermountain Jewish News – article to be published before 6/30/10
· Senator Gary Hart was invited to speak to the club about Russia and Afghanistan
· Denver Hispanic Chamber was reached out to, and we hope for reciprocal visit before 6/30/10
· 9News – featured President Roland Thornton
· Denver Woman Magazine - article was not published due to financial issues at the magazine after a long collaborative effort
· Marcus Jimenez, one of the nation’s top experts in diversity marketing, was invited to join the club but he was not interested
Outreach:
All efforts mentioned above, plus:
· Grant Wilkins and Polio were featured on 9News
· If the club receives the District Diversity Award, we have a good chance to be featured on CO Public Radio’s Colorado Matters program before 6/30/10
· Program about The Denver Kids and Rotary will happen on Channel 12 – Studio 12 around the May 6th graduation lunch– work is in progress
· Club Brochure was developed and distributed this month
· Club Talk Show is to be done before 6/30/10, to provide an opportunity for Committee Chairs and others to share accomplishments
The stage, the Keyway, the website were used proactively:
· Stage announcements (Club Store, Club Advertising, etc)
· Monthly Communications Chronicle in the Keyway
Proactive contact with other clubs/District:
· Club nominated for two District Awards – Four Way Test and Diversity
· Attended District Communications Committee Meetings and provided updates on what is going on at our club
Provided major assistance with planning the District GSE Team visit from Japan:
· Outbound team candidate we suggested was approved and is now in Japan;
· Arranged visits for the incoming team from Japan to DOE Golden Field Office and their world’s first zero energy building, DOE Western Area Power Administration, Greenprint Denver, and CO Governor’s Office of Energy Management; Work on media coverage for this effort is in progress
Fundraising:
· Rotary Store
· Rotary Web Site sponsorships were solicited, price structure developed, some ads posted
