Dear Fellow Rotarians:
As some of you may be aware, as a central part of the celebration of 100 Years of Rotary in Colorado (December 2011) an effort is being mounted by Colorado Rotarians to address the serious inadequacies of Internet access/capacity in our K-12 public schools throughout Colorado ... not just the rural portions of our state, but even along the Front Range. All Colorado Rotarians are asked to immediately voice support for the approval and full funding of a federal stimulus grant of $146 million that will be create a vital "middle mile" network that will be the backbone of the solution. Rotarians are also asked to seriously consider pressing those in their circles of influence, including fellow Rotarians who may not use email, to do likewise.
The consideration of this grant is in the very final stages. A decision may be announced within a week or so and your help is needed urgently to contact President Obama, the Assistant US Secretary of Commerce responsible for the decision, Governor Ritter, and our US Senators and US Congressmen, and to voice Colorado's strong and broad-based support and urgent need for this grant to be approved.
A map of Colorado's Congressional Districts is provided for your convenience.
If you prefer to reach any of these key contacts by phone, fax or US Mail, a list of contact information is provided for President Obama, Governor Ritter and the Colorado Congressional Delegation, all of whom are key "influencers" with respect to this decision.
Also, following is the address for the Assistant US Secretary of Commerce, who is charged with the final decision in this matter:
The Honorable Larry StricklinGg
Assistant Secretary of Commerce
Administrator - National Telecommunications and Information Administration
U.S. Department of Commerce
1401 Constitution Ave. NW
Washington, D.C. 20230
THANK YOU!
